Odell & Kay Vandiver Parrish's
Family

March 1966

God Made Kay Vandiver just for my brother. I think she was part of us before she ever met us. Seems weird writing her maiden name on anything because she is more like a sister than an in-law.
I remember the first time I saw Kay. Odell loved drag racing and Daddy told me one Saturday evening Odell was racing in Finger, Tennessee. Daddy and I loaded in his truck to go watch my brother race. When we arrived I wanted to sneak up on
Odell who was sitting in his car waiting for time for line up. I slipped around the car and jumped up at the open window and yelled "Boo!" Well my brother wasn't the only person in the car. The beautiful blonde in the photo above leaned
forward and smiled at me.
From that moment on Kay was a Parrish:) And there was a great bonus...Kay had a sister my age, Marilyn who became my great friend. This is Kay and Marilyn in 1992. Kay and I took off on a sister's trip and went to Florida where Marilyn
lives. We had an unforgettable time. Except for the fact Hurricane Andrew headed for shore and Kay didn't think we should let "A little old hurricane run us out of Florida."

Odell and Kay gave Daddy and Mom their first grandchild, Darrell Douglas Parrish. Darrell was born Monday, September 18th, 1967. Daddy and I picked up Mrs. Vandiver and drove her to be with Kay
but it was too late. When Darrell decided it was time to see the world he did not wait on visitors to arrive.

Odell and Kay moved to Maywood, Illinois when Darrell was little. I visited them a few times and it was great being with them. November 1973 Kimberly Mae Parrish was born. I believe Odell and Kay moved
back to Chester County, Tennessee in January of 1974.

Odell and Kay bought some beautiful land in Finger, Tennessee. It had a barn and a pond on the property. They would go camping there on the weekends and work on the land. Sometimes we would go down in
the summer time and have a cookout. They both worked hard and made that place beautiful.

Odell said he decided after a while he would buy some goats to help him clear the land. He laughed and said he thought it was a bright idea. The goats would eat some of the weeds and such giving him
less work plus he wouldn't have to feed the goats. He laughed and said he didn't realize they would eat everything on the land. But he loved watching those goats.

Odell had two ducks in his pond and he would get up in the morning and sit in his recliner with his coffee, watching the ducks in the early morning. It was nice and peaceful at Odell and Kay's.
I miss you both greatly! Sis you must slow down on working so we can get together:)

Odell and Kay Parrish (photo above) has two children, Darrell Douglas and Kimberly Mae (photo below).

Darrell is sadly missed by his family. A car accident took Darrell from his family Tuesday, March 19, 1996. The following January his Daddy joined him. We love and miss both of you.
